An example press release is most useful when it shows both the finished announcement and the job of each section. The fictional model below uses a library launch, but its structure also fits product news, partnerships, events, and funding announcements.
An example of a press release should give a reporter the news quickly, then supply evidence and a reliable route to follow-up.

Riverbend Public Library Launches Mobile Learning Lab for Rural Students
Free traveling program brings technology workshops and digital-literacy support to four Ohio counties
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 12, 2025 — Riverbend Public Library announced March 12, 2025, that it will launch the Mobile Learning Lab in April 2025, bringing free laptop access, internet help, and digital-literacy workshops to students in Union, Madison, Fayette, and Pickaway counties. The program will visit partner schools and community centers twice a month, addressing limited access to technology outside school hours.
From April through September, the lab will visit each county twice monthly. Each stop will offer two-hour workshops on online research, resume preparation, and internet safety, along with loaner laptops and individual assistance. School counselors and community organizations will refer students who lack dependable home internet.
“The Mobile Learning Lab extends practical learning support beyond the library’s buildings,” said Elena Morales, Riverbend Public Library’s director of community programs. “Its rotating schedule allows students in smaller communities to access equipment and instruction close to home.”
Registration for the first workshops opens March 24 at riverbendlibrary.org/mobile-lab. The library will publish the full schedule and accessibility information on the same page.

What an example of a press release includes: headline, dateline, and lead
The headline identifies the organization and the news in a direct, active construction. It avoids vague promotion and gives editors a usable starting point. The subhead adds a specific benefit or detail without repeating the headline.
The dateline places the announcement in context. It normally contains the city, state or country, and release date, followed by an em dash. The lead then answers the essential questions: who made the announcement, what happened, when it happens, where it applies, why it matters, and how it will work.
Body and supporting details
The body expands the lead with facts that support the announcement. Dates, locations, eligibility, pricing, measurements, schedules, and registration instructions make the news actionable. Short paragraphs improve scanning, while one attributed quote adds perspective without replacing evidence.
Supporting details should remain relevant to the announcement. The model uses program frequency, workshop topics, referral sources, and a registration date rather than broad claims about the library.
Boilerplate and contact block
The boilerplate is a standardized description of the issuing organization. It establishes relevance and can be reused with minor updates across announcements. It should state what the organization does, not repeat the release’s main news.
The contact block gives journalists a named person, role, email address, phone number, and relevant web page. A complete example of a press release ends with these details so follow-up requests have a clear destination.
